Pursuing lifelong interests in nature, sustainability, and food, Chris MacDonald and Laura Casserly apprenticed then worked at Villageside Farm, a diversified organic farm in Freedom. In 2017, they launched Good Land Farm in Waldo and joined MOFGA’s Journeyperson program. As they searched for farmland to steward for the long haul, they raised sheep and rabbits on friends’ pasture with plans to expand their offerings in the seasons to come.
In 2018, they were fortunate to purchase forever farmland from Maine Farmland Trust. Their first seasons in Windham have been focused on setting up their farm and building infrastructure as they raise sheep, pigs, rabbits, and one tiny human.
They are excited to feed their community with food that is ethically and sustainably raised as well as delicious and nourishing. Some of their favorite farm tasks include: rising with the sun for morning chores, letting sheep onto fresh pasture, shoveling manure, feeding pigs, and watching the farm animals frolic.
